Workshops and Retreats

Values at Work

What really shapes culture, behaviour and decision-making

About the workshop

Many organisations describe themselves as values-led, often through mission statements, strategic commitments or statements of ethos. Yet the real values of an organisation usually become visible elsewhere: in everyday decisions, in who is promoted, how conflict is handled, what risks are taken, what behaviours are tolerated, and whose voices are heard.

Values are not an add-on to organisational life. They form part of the underlying system that shapes behaviour, culture and decision-making, whether they are named explicitly or not.

This workshop explores how values can be identified, defined and given meaningful traction within organisations. It examines the relationship between the values an organisation declares and the values that operate in practice, sometimes with unintended or harmful consequences.

The workshop will also consider how moral standpoints, religious traditions and wider worldviews shape organisational life, and how organisations might engage these dimensions thoughtfully and constructively.

Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on the values operating within their own organisations, and to consider how greater clarity and coherence might be developed between stated commitments and lived practice.

Time to Think Carefully Together

Workshops and retreats are carefully curated time together, facilitated by Stephen Parker. He creates space for people and groups to step back from the usual pace of organisational life and think carefully about a particular issue, question or season of change.

Workshops and retreats are reflective, structured and focused on personal and organisational flourishing. Usually held in beautiful surroundings, and shaped with wider wellbeing in mind, each one is designed around the needs, context and purpose of the group.

My aim is to create the conditions for clearer thinking, deeper conversation and wiser action.

Leaders’ and Team Retreats

About the retreat

Noesis offers bespoke half-day and full-day retreats for small groups of leaders and leadership teams.

These retreats create space for those carrying significant responsibility to step back from ordinary demands and think differently for a while. They are designed for teams who need time to reflect on values, mission, purpose, direction or the quality of their shared life and work.

Each retreat is shaped around the needs and context of the group. A typical retreat may include carefully chosen inputs and provocations, time for individual and shared reflection, conversation around values and purpose, and creative, active, artistic or literary forms of expression.

Where appropriate, retreats may close with a simple inclusive ritual, allowing the group to mark what has been noticed, clarified or shifted before returning to everyday responsibilities.

Alongside open retreats offered during the year, organisations may commission a retreat for their own leadership team, creating space for the kind of thoughtful, unhurried consideration that day-to-day operational pressure rarely allows.
